TJ Swift House believes in uplifting and encouraging our individuals to become integral members of the communities they live in. This is a fundamental piece of our mission statement, and something we strongly believe in. A central way in which our individuals can contribute to the community is through inclusive hiring. Disabilities can create barriers for employment, but there are so many benefits to inclusive hiring.
Inclusive hiring is a mutually beneficial relationship for the employer and employee. Hiring those with developmental disabilities taps into potential that is often overlooked by employers. Employees with disabilities bring a level of creativity and diversity that should not be overlooked or ignored. TJ Swift House highly encourages our individuals to pursue their dreams, whatever they might be.
TJ Swift House is proud to support several individuals who hold down both part-time and full-time jobs. One of our individuals, Justin, works at Wildflower Cafe in West Plains. You can catch Justin serving up sandwiches on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The hands-on environment at the cafe is empowering for individuals as they gain experience in the workforce.
At TJ Swift House, we have 12 individuals employed in the Alton area alone. This is something, as an agency, we are extremely proud of. Both part-time and full-time jobs bring a level of routine and sense of independence to our individuals. This is significant in the development of their careers, and sense of self. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of the community. We would like to thank Wildflower Cafe and Ozark Independent Living, as well as Oregon County Sheltered Workshop. Several of our individuals are employed by these establishments and we are forever grateful for them!
