TJ Swift House is all about creating a fulfilling and inclusive life for the individuals we support. As described in our mission statement, we believe it is our duty to encourage our individuals to live a beautiful and productive life. One of the most beneficial ways to implement this is by providing recreational and leisurely activities for the individuals we support.
This is where our day habilitation facility, Honest Imagination, comes into play. Honest Imagination is a safe place for all of TJ Swift House individuals (and beyond) are able to come and express themselves creatively on a daily basis. Art projects, crafts, movies, games, and field trips are just a few of the activities that are offered on a weekly basis. Honest Imagination’s vision is to be a thriving art gallery in West Plains, Missouri. Honest Imagination supports people with gifts and talents who enjoy giving back to their community. Honest Imagination is open Monday through Thursday for art projects and activities. Individuals outside of TJ Swift House are welcome to join us in the afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00.
Another example of a recreational activity the agency supports is the annual Special Olympics. This event is a widely popular one amongst the individuals we support. The Special Olympics of Missouri’s mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition. Individuals with disabilities are able to compete in Olympic-type sports while developing new skills and improving overall health. The Special Olympics and its mission of inclusion prove that those with disabilities can and do thrive when given the chance.
A third and final way TJSH provides recreational and leisure activities for our individuals is by getting outdoors. TJ Swift House offers access to a sprawling ranch in Thomasville, Missouri. The ranch, also known as Brookwood, is a place for our individuals to explore outside, ride horses, and enjoy nature. In the longterm, Brookwood will be a routine place of retreat for TJ Swift House individuals. Getting outside and breathing fresh air is a priority for our individuals, and we are so excited for all the special memories the ranch will provide.
